Jason painted this series of five birds during 2006 when we were living in our 25th floor apartment in NYC. This is the first time they have been made available for sale. From our window you could look down on the birds flying and this always struck a chord with me … usually one is looking up at the birds. I liked these paintings on paper straight away; the simplicity of the line work, color and flatness of the images still managed to capture movement, flight and freedom … the very essence of what it is to be a bird.

Second only to the Brooklyn Bridge, Tower Bridge in London is the bridge I have crossed the most by foot. Whenever Sophie and I drop into London we take the same circular walk….Waterloo Station, steps down to the river, left at the London Eye, some expert weaving through a sea of people, a brief stroll along the Thames, then up the steps to Westminster Bridge (now that I think about it I’ve crossed that bridge multiple times too). Once over the bridge, its on towards Embankment and the inevitable stop at Gordon’s Wine Bar. Then it’s a slower stroll towards Tower Bridge, crossing over, briefly stopping to admire the view, then down to the Thames path again for more strolling and expert weaving, past The Clink Prison (at which I always proclaim “So that’s where the term ‘throw ‘em in the clink’ comes from”) – more strolling and finally to Tate Modern, lift/elevator straight to the top for a fine view of St. Paul’s (and the sea of cranes scattered around the city’s construction projects – tons of cranes in London!)
As for the appeal of Tower Bridge … I like its easily recognizable silhouette, it makes for an iconic image. In my mind the image of Tower Bridge screams London long before it screams bridge. All of the metaphors and quotes about bridges seem to be about moving forward and not looking back. But in my life this particular bridge and painting reminds me of walking for miles and miles in a circle, alongside Sophie.
Maybe it’s that paradox which compelled me to paint it.

The principal owner of NY Vintners has been collecting my paintings since 2001 and up until now the bulk of his collection has been on private display in his home. Currently a selection of recently acquired paintings in addition to a couple paintings dating back to 2001 are on permanent display at NY Vintners wine shop/Event space. Along with a Monopoly print 2001 (a few of the edition of 50 are still available for purchase) NYV is displaying: Budda 2009, Birdsss 2009, Chair 2003, Eiffel Tower 2007, and Telephone 2004.
NY Vintners is located at 21 Warren st. (Tribeca, NYC) Near City Hall off Broadway. NYV operates a succesful online business along with their architecturally stunning Shop/Event Space…The entire location is modular and can be converted via floor tracks into an enormous space able to entertain 100’s of people with a full open view restaurant sized kitchen in the back. It really has to be seen in person, I have not come across any place like it in NYC or elsewhere. Stop in to say hello check out the wine and the art.
